Okay, to start off with, this is going to be a little different than my normal blogs. I had a fantastic week this last week and I wanted to share it with you! My kids’ had Spring Break this last week and my hubby decided to take vacation during that time, too. So, (almost) our whole family was together for a little over a week and I loved it!
Don’t get me wrong, we have our issues. Kids fight, mom and dad get frustrated, things get loud, but we had an overall very good and very productive week.
Let’s start off with the productive stuff then we will get to the fun stuff. 🙂 We (mostly my husband and my dad, if I am being totally honest) redid the flooring in our kitchen and our living room (pics below). We split that into two different weekends because it was a big task! We, also, spent Monday and Tuesday rearranging, cleaning, and scrubbing out different areas of our house, catching up on laundry, and doing all the menial tasks that we got behind on during our “normal” lives.
Now, for the fun stuff! We had to change our plans several times before we settled on what we were actually doing. I did a video on this in our Fresh of Breath Air Facebook page (join us here https://www.facebook.com/Fresh-of-Breath-Air-2264580540482243), check it out if you would like to see how our plans changed over and over and over again. We settled on just traveling about 45 minutes away from our house and spending a couple of night in a nice hotel and spending some time spoiling our kiddos. As a family who lives on a single income, we don’t get a chance to do that very often, so it was fun for all of us! We started off with taking the kiddos on a shopping spree, which I didn’t get a lot of pics of because we were just having so much fun watching our 11 and 8 year old sons tear through Ross and squealing about all the new clothes they got to buy (thanks to our tax return and the stimulus check).
Second, we all went to get pedicures. Our youngest was a little hesitant about it at first but ended up being so relaxed by it, he almost fell asleep in the massage chair while they massaged his feet. Our older son was super excited, as he has problems with in-grown toenails and has been having a lot of pain in his fast-growing feet. My husband has had several pedicures and loves them every time, so this was nothing new for him.

Next, we went to relax at the hotel, while we were waiting for the big game! Okay, not really a big game, but we love hockey and (thanks to COVID) we didn’t get to go last year. So, we were super excited to get to go back again! Wichita Thunder versus Indy Heat, it was a really good game, ended 3-2, Wichita won! Also, side note, the Thunder have never lost a game that we have been able to attend (aside from the one that we had to leave early because my son started throwing up, but that doesn’t count because they were winning when we left 😉 ), I’m thinking they should hand us some season tickets to boost their stats. Just kidding, but seriously, we wouldn’t turn them down.

After a fun game and a long day, we headed back to the hotel and settled in for the night. The next morning, the hubby and I were woke up just before 8 AM by some kids that were ready for some breakfast, followed shortly by a lot of fun swimming! So, we headed down to eat and back up (7th floor) to change to swim then back down (around 30 minutes later, we aren’t crazy, lol) to let the boys swim for a couple of hours while I studied for the ASL class that I am taking. The boys had a lot of fun swimming, but after two hours, their dad and I had to pull them away to head back to the room to change.
From there, we headed for a ride. We didn’t know where we were going or what we were going to do, but we were just out having fun. After lots and lots of begging from the kids, we headed to a small arcade. The boys were like kids in a candy store (a store that we specifically avoided while we were out). They were hopping from game to game to game and trying to play all of them before we left. I know I keep saying it, but I had more fun watching them than playing the games myself.
From there, we went driving again and landed ourselves at an escape room. We went in and scheduled a time to return to complete one of the rooms, then headed back to the hotel to relax before we had to try to wiggle our way out of the room. We chose an 80s themed room because my hubby is a huge fan of the 80s and I knew he would understand any 80s-specific clues that may be thrown at us. Also, our other option was an Indiana Jones themed room and I didn’t need any snakes or anything crazy like that jumping out at me. Anyway, we beat the room with just a little bit of time leftover. And, whether we did or whether we didn’t, we had a lot of fun.
We ended our night with ice cream from Cold Stone. Oh yeah, then as we were settling in for the night, our youngest decided he needed his loose tooth pulled. After lots and lots and lots of wiggling, it finally came out. We ended the night with him saying, “I’m sorry that I kept you up so late tonight. But, it was for a really good reason, right?” We assured him it was just fine, but it was after 11, so we needed to get some sleep.

The next morning, we ate breakfast, then the youngest and I headed back to the room to pack things up (his decision) while Dad took the older one to swim one more time before we checked out and headed home. Okay, kind of, headed home. We got almost home when I realized I had left my wallet. Yikes! So, back to the hotel we headed to grab it and since it was right at lunch time, we made one more stop for food. Oh, speaking of food. . . Check out all of this deliciousness and the smiles that went with it!
If your kiddos had Spring Break this last week, I hope you were able to get out and have some fun, too! I’d love to hear what you and your family did while they were on break!
